We are active participants in the Rights Respecting School Award; a UNICEF initiative which is helping children in many schools rethink the way they look at the world. We are proud that our school has achieved the Level One award.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential. By working within the ‘Rights-Respecting School’ award we aim to help our children grow into confident, caring and responsible young citizens, both in school and within the wider community. Learning about their own rights also means learning about the importance of respecting the rights of others – locally and globally. In school, this means an additional element being highlighted in many lessons and in our worship times.

Which rights might my child will learn about?
Some of the most important rights in our school are:
- I have the right to an education (article 28)
- I have the right to relax and play (article 31)
- I have the right to clean water (article 24)
- I have the right to nutritious food (article 24)
- I have the right to privacy (article 16)
- I have the right to say what I think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect me (article 12)
