British Values Statement
Building Together on a firm and solid foundation
At our school, our vision is inspired by the words of Jesus in the story of the Wise and Foolish Builders:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24–27
We believe in Building Together on a firm and solid Foundation. Through collective worship, we listen to and reflect upon the Word of God, developing strong foundations for learning, character and faith. As a school community, we put the teachings of Jesus into practice by supporting, encouraging and working together. Our Christian values of Compassion, Perseverance and Respect guide our actions and relationships every day.
These values closely align with and actively promote the fundamental British Values of Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs. Through our curriculum, worship, wider opportunities and daily interactions, we prepare our pupils to become responsible, respectful and active citizens in modern Britain.
Democracy
We teach children that every voice matters and that everyone has the right to be heard.
Pupils experience democracy through:
- School Council elections and pupil leadership opportunities
- Voting and decision-making in class
- Sharing ideas, opinions and suggestions
- Participating in discussions and debates
By encouraging children to listen respectfully to different viewpoints, we help them understand fairness, responsibility and the importance of contributing positively to their community.
Linked Christian Values: Respect and Compassion
The Rule of Law
We help children understand that rules and laws exist to keep people safe, promote fairness and support a harmonious society.
This is developed through:
- Clear school expectations and behaviour policies
- Classroom agreements created with pupils
- Learning about rights and responsibilities
- Restorative approaches to resolving conflict
Following the example of Jesus, we encourage pupils to make positive choices, take responsibility for their actions and understand the consequences of their decisions.
Linked Christian Values: Respect and Perseverance
Individual Liberty
We encourage every child to grow in confidence, independence and self-belief within a safe and supportive environment.
Children are given opportunities to:
- Express their views and opinions
- Make choices about their learning and activities
- Develop leadership skills and take on responsibilities
- Learn about personal safety, wellbeing and online safety
By building strong foundations of self-worth and resilience, pupils learn to make informed choices while respecting the freedoms and rights of others.
Linked Christian Values: Perseverance and Respect
Mutual Respect
Respect is central to our vision of Building Together. We recognise that every person is unique and valued as part of God’s family.
We promote mutual respect through:
- Positive relationships between pupils, staff and families
- Teamwork and collaborative learning
- Celebrating achievements and diversity
- Encouraging kindness, empathy and understanding
Pupils learn that respecting others helps create a caring and inclusive school community where everyone can flourish.
Linked Christian Values: Respect and Compassion
Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
As a Church school, we celebrate diversity and encourage understanding of different faiths, beliefs and cultures.
This is achieved through:
- Religious Education lessons
- Collective worship
- Learning about world faiths and cultural traditions
- Visitors, visits and community partnerships
- Celebrating national and international events
We encourage pupils to appreciate and value differences, recognising that understanding and respect help strengthen communities and promote peace.

British Values Through Our Christian Vision
Our Christian vision and values provide the strong foundation upon which British Values are lived out in our school. Through collective worship, our curriculum and daily experiences, pupils learn how to:
- Treat others with dignity and respect
- Show compassion and care for those around them
- Persevere when faced with challenges
- Make responsible choices
- Work collaboratively for the good of the community
- Appreciate and celebrate diversity
- Become active and responsible citizens
By Building Together on a Firm and Solid Foundation, we nurture children who are equipped not only for academic success but also for life in modern Britain. Rooted in Christian values and guided by British Values, our pupils are encouraged to become courageous, compassionate and respectful individuals who can make a positive difference in the world around them.
