School Admissions

Esh Church of England Primary School has an admissions limit of 15 pupils per year group.

Esh Church of England Primary School is part of the Durham and Newcastle Diocese and our Admissions Policy gives a list of criteria for admissions. We welcome applications from children of all faiths, or none, and for further details, our School Admission Policy is available to view or download below.

If you wish your child to attend Esh Church of England Primary school, in any age group, you must fill in an application form, even if you live in the admission zone for the school. The child’s home address is the address of the parent/carer receiving the child benefit. The addresses of childminders or family members sharing in the care of children must not be used.

Visit the Durham County Council website for information regarding the school admission process and primary school admissions

Right of Appeal: If you are not successful in obtaining a place for your child at our school, you have a statutory right of appeal. To appeal against an admission decision visit: School admissions-appeals.

If you require further information please contact the school.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We are committed to meeting the needs of all children including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We would ask parents to discuss the identified needs with the school prior to starting so that appropriate intervention and support can be planned and implemented. We gather a great deal of information prior to pupils entering the school which may take the form of all, or some of the following:

  • Information from your child’s pre-school or previous school;
  • Home visit by Class Teacher (prior to entry to Reception Class);
  • Information from other agencies who have worked with your child e.g. Speech and Language Therapist or Early Years Team;
  • Class Teacher visit to main feeder pre-schools to observe your child and speak to their key worker.

This information will be to plan for your child to meet any additional needs they have. Once your child is in school, we will monitor their progress and development and if we have any concerns, we may ask other professionals to advise.

Advice from the LA or other agencies may be requested to ensure the school can meet any needs appropriately.

Please view the Special Education Needs (SEN) Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy which you can view or download in the School Policies section of our website.

Applying for a school place if your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan or a Statement of SEN

Children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (or Statement of Special Education Needs) follow a different admission and transfer process for a new school. Please continue to complete Durham County Council Parental Preference Form, as part of the admission process to a new school. You continue to have a right to request a particular school and this will be considered alongside the information that we have about your child’s special educational needs. The information would have been provided as part of the Education, Health and Care Assessment or following the review meeting.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
